Santé is a motif I keep returning to. Over the years, it has appeared in different versions, sometimes under the title Temptations, always circling the same feeling. For me, it captures a moment of complete presence: a woman enjoying her apéro, raising a glass to life. There is no destination to reach, nothing to prove, no urgency beyond the simple act of being fully there.

 

The French toast Santé literally wishes one another good health. Beyond celebration, it is a quiet reminder that simply being alive, present, and able to share a moment with others is already something worth raising a glass to. Sometimes joy doesn't ask to be explained. Sometimes it is enough to pause, take a sip, and say: Santé.
