Pause began as a simple painting of a chair, inspired by the bold forms of Matisse and the playful colours of Miró. I was drawn to the chair as an everyday object we rarely notice, yet one that quietly accompanies so many moments of our lives. We sit down to eat, to work, to think, to laugh, to grieve, to celebrate and to connect.

 

Much later, I added the slice of pizza. It transformed the painting into something more personal: a gentle reminder to take a break without having to earn it. In a culture that often celebrates constant productivity, rest can feel surprisingly uncomfortable. Pause invites us to reclaim it—not as an interruption to life, but as an essential part of it. Sometimes the most meaningful thing we can do is simply sit down—and stay a little longer.
